The storm front rolls in

A large storm front rolled over Sydney in the late afternoon today. Thunderstorms aren’t out of the norm but the visual of this storm as it raced towards and over my home was impressive.

Here you can see the edge of the front looking  west.

This was the edge to the north.

567 This storm front raced. The view here is looking south.  572  573 The wind accompanying was strong and loud as it pushed these clouds on their path. I headed indoors after taking these photos as  lightning started. A heavy deluge followed and the temperature plummeted.

Any other NSW people have stories or photos of this event to share?

  1. Great shots. Sometimes scenes like this set my inagination off and I think of things like tornadoes and get a bit freaked!

  2. Wow beautiful photo’s I use to live in Sydney and remember the storms well. I am down the South Coast now, raining here today but nothing as spectacular as that sky. Thanks for sharing. Kath.

    • Thank you, it took me by surprise. I had arrived home to a light cloud cover and read online there was a storm coming . In the space of I’d say less than 30 minutes that monster had raced over to us. The sound accompanying it made it all seem surreal.

  3. Wow, it must have been quite scary for you to see that above you in the sky! I’m glad you didn’t suffer any major damage or anything serious…I saw some amazing pictures on the news of snow?? I feel sorry for those who lost their cars or suffered damage to their homes though 😦 Great photos! X x

  4. Amazing shots there. Another blogger that I follow got snow. 🙂

  5. Wow, impressive photos! I saw footage on the TV it looked crazy!

  6. One thing I loved about Sydney when I lived there were the storms. I lived in a block of units overlooking Diamond Bay in Vaucluse. They were sensational. The thunder would sound like a nuclear bomb. Great shots!

  7. Oh, those are some impressive clouds. I love storms and that looks like a great one! Wish these pictures came with sound. 🙂

  8. I was home during the storm (in fact it got in the way of the plans I had for the night) but your photos of it are amazing! love that you can see it rolling in

  9. Wow, great captures! The second photo looks like a tornado is forming… I would have been pretty scared if I saw that above my house! Glad there wasn’t any damage. 🙂

  10. The clouds were remarkable & your pics convey how different they were to normal clouds. I was taking pictures at an inner west station, trying to capture the water-colour effect of the storm front – so smooth & full.

  11. I love storms and had a chance to do a little storm chasing with my camera when I lived on the Northern Plains. It was always exciting…and a little scary. Great shots!

  12. These are some spectacular clouds!

I enjoy reading comments so don't forget to add one please :)
