What’s your Hobby?

How do you fill your spare time? Do you have a hobby , or should that read ‘hobbies’?

Yesterday I found my daughter busy on her laptop. This was hardly unusual as she is in her final year at university and is always working on an assignment of some kind (or on social media – perhaps even more frequently than on assignments). I asked her what she was up to and she replied she was researching hobbies.  Of course, intrigued, I asked for what course was that an assignment. Turns out it was for a course where she has to tell the group about herself in a tutorial. She decided it would be interesting to have a hobby to share with the group. I personally would describe her hobby as being social and offered that as an idea along with tanning, walking, running, volunteering  and of course her cat. I’m not sure when she combines these with her studies and part time work she could actually fit in anything else. But, as she doesn’t feel the social or exercise are hobbies, she continued exploring the options. I too headed off on my own looking for ideas to sate my curiosity about hobbies as nominated by my good friend Google.

I even did a quiz to see which hobbies most suited to me. My result was

You are Artist

You are creative to the max!  You enjoy expressing yourself through your creative outlets and artistic talents.  Look for a hobby in sculpting, drawing, painting, theater, or music.

Looking  forward to hearing what you learn from it  🙂

A mum to 2 grown up children who always make me proud, a wife and a full time school teacher. I love eating great food but am not motivated to cook. Love traveling around this great country in which I live. Often found traveling with my husband Brian. I write for pleasure and if it's read (and enjoyed) by others then that's a bonus! 2014 saw me begin the 'new' me. Working hard at leaving the fear of 'what if' behind and replacing it with YOLO adventures. :)

  1. One of my biggest hobbies is crafting. I love making costumes, mini top hats and anything else that strikes my fancy. Of course, this means I spend a fair amount of time in Pinterest. So would that be considered a hobby too?

Also, I don’t think I really got into hobbies until I was in my thirties. I was too focused on school, building a career, and my friends.

    • Pinterest is a time drainer ( in a good way lol ) I can go there and then look at the clock and what seems a few minutes is actually an hour lol. I never cease to be amazed by a lot of what I find there and always seem to have an ‘excuse’ to be there haha . I’ve tried a few crafts and one I really enjoyed was quilling. At the moment I think my blog is my biggest hobby . Thank you for visiting my blog and having a chat .

      • Yes, I’ve spent many an hour, or many a day, on Pinterest. I tell myself that it’s okay because I do make some of the things I find on there.

Never tried quilling. Will have to peruse Pinterest for some inspiration 🙂

        • I like that idea of how you justify time. :)). I’ve tried a few things so I guess it was research lol. I also think if I don’t look it’s not polite to those that have pinned 😉

  2. I checked the link, was surprised at the survey results. With over 4000 people responding, 79% said they didn’t have a hobby. Maybe they do things for fun that they don’t consider a hobby. That percentage seemed high to me.

    • I could list so many things my daughter does but she didn’t consider them hobbies as they were things she did for fun but lacked passion about. Maybe that’s how others think about them too. I consider hobbies to be the things we do more than a few times , for enjoyment not necessarily at a passionate level.

  3. No surprises there – apparently I am an artist also 🙂

  4. Reblogged this on Forget the Viagra, Pass Me a Carrot and commented:
This blog from Journey or Destination got me thinking – I took a look at my activities in general and tried to identify what could be classified as a hobby. I am off to take the test – who knows there might be something I am missing.

I enjoy reading comments so don't forget to add one please :)
