I didn’t mean it…honest!

I read blogs as often as I have a free moment ( I seem to squeeze those moments from nowhere). I look at blogs as a tool of learning. I have noticed so many have a disclaimer. Sure it’s probably on the larger ones but I have aspirations of being that bigger blog one day, so I thought why not start preparing one.

While the disclaimers I’ve read seem to appear of a legal variety, I’m not into any legal understanding so my disclaimer at the moment reflects a simplistic understanding. This is what I have so far…

The views expressed here are of my personal opinion based on my personal experience only and are not meant to cause distress. By the way, this statement works well in outside of blog interactions when someone asks you for a comment on their new hair, dress, waist size …

The photos are mine too (but if they aren’t I’ll tell you) and they are in no way meant to offend. By mine, some technically may belong to my husband but I work on the motto of “What’s yours is mine and what’s mine is mine” (oh and to give credit where its due I believe that’s a quote by  the ever active Anonymous.. but if I’m wrong send me a correct link so I can give credit.)

I don’t mind if you quote me, but link back to me so I can share in the fun of reading your content. And, a polite ‘follow ‘wouldn’t go astray.

Oh and I change my mind and opinions frequently. I am female after all. So, if I think it’s ok today to participate in a fad or whatever, tomorrow it may just be the worst thing I can think to do. Though I doubt I’ll ever change my mind on how great pink is as a colour , caramel slices being a fantastic treat and Hamilton Island being the best place in the world (all just my opinion of course!)

Oh and while I am a qualified and hard working full time teacher, my views on education are my opinions gained through years of teaching and in no way reflect the thoughts of my employer . I also may spout child rearing knowledge having raised two kids through to become adults  who are  caring, responsible (except for leaving their pets with me a bit too often)valuable community members but trust me …it’s all hindsight stuff (they screamed and tantrummed with the best of them!!)

What’s in your disclaimer? Should I actually have some legal jargon and if so any suggestions where to find it or what to include? Look forward to your help.

Author: Travelling Macs

A mum to 2 grown up children who always make me proud, a wife and a full time school teacher. I love eating great food but am not motivated to cook. Love traveling around this great country in which I live. Often found traveling with my husband Brian. I write for pleasure and if it's read (and enjoyed) by others then that's a bonus! 2014 saw me begin the 'new' me. Working hard at leaving the fear of 'what if' behind and replacing it with YOLO adventures. :)

  1. Mine is ” If you wouldn’t eat it, don’t photograph it.” On a food blog, we often see “tricks” on how to make fake food look more inviting than real food, such as using mashed potato for ice cream, or spraying a chicken with inedible petrol based products to make it look juicy – eugh! My aim is to make real food look as good as it tastes. Who would have thought?

  2. Love it!!! Must think of getting a disclaimer for myself.

  3. Ha! I really wouldn’t consider ever using a disclaimer, for lots of reasons. The type of phatic communication we have with blogging renders the need for them as superfluous; it’s like saying, these are my own opinions published on an informal platform for people to publish their opinions. It’s not even like silly. It is silly. But hey – I think a lot of things are really silly and unnecessary; but discourse conventions and phatic communication are a couple of my things. I had already started compiling a piece on elements of this last week, with regards to the meta-cognition involved with opinion – it’s quite elegant, I just haven’t decided on the hook yet.

This is a top post, good ida and it made me laugh, which is no mean feat in my condition, blaaaah 😮

    • Ha glad I caused a laugh for you . I’d hoped I would for at least a few. Can’t wait to read your piece on opinion 🙂

      • Thank you – no, I really enjoyed this, appreciated the wit. I can’t wait to read it too – I have the notes and the model – it’s absurdly simple but I think covers most processes… But I’m still waiting for the a-ha aspect that’ll stop it reading as stilty, dull or preachy. There’s no reason why serious stuff can’t be fun!

  4. Very good, had never thought of one before. You’ve got me thinking now.

    • It’s a bit disappointing ( in my opinion of course haha ) that opinions need to be justified with a disclaimer. We can’t always agree with each other but offence shouldn’t be taken by that. Ah an idea for another blog topic. 🙂

  5. I wonder what sort of disclaimer I could write if I put my mind to it? Love yours by the way. But having never been to Hamilton Island, I can’t really compare it to Trinity Beach but Trinity Beach is the most beautiful place on earth in my eyes. lol

    • I agree Trinity Beach ( that’s the one near Cairns ??) is beautiful but Hamilton Island has a swim up bar and buggies to ride on instead of walking and so I give it the extra points being a lazy person hahaha :))

  6. Thank you for giving me a chuckle this morning……maybe I need to work on a disclaimer as well!

  7. I love this disclaimer! Mostly because I actually read it haha. Great inspiration – I might change mine 🙂

  8. Oh no, now I need a disclaimer? never thought about it before, but yours is very clever. May mine be equally so. Thanks.

I enjoy reading comments so don't forget to add one please :)
